Slate

Slate, a Metamorphic Rock, is composed of quartz and mica. It generally has originated from clay and volcanic ash. It has a
high density, low absorption rate, and high abrasion rate. It does not react to acidic properties, though it may scratch. Colors range
from green and grey to red and gold. Slate is available in a honed surface as well as a natural cleft or split finish. On the Mohs
scale of hardness it ranks from a 6-7. As with all natural stones, sealing is recommended, 1-2 times a year.
Slate is seen in kitchen and bathroom countertop applications as well as showers, tub decks, flooring, and fireplace surrounds.
