Marble

Marble is a type of Metamorphic Rock. Marble is composed of calcite, dolomite, and serpentine. Marble is produced when sedimentary rock such as limestone is subjected to increasing heat, pressure, and the minerals are then altered chemically distorted or physically realigned. Most marble has a higher water absorption rate, and a lower abrasion resistance compared to granite. On the Mohs scale of hardness it ranks 4-5. As with all natural stones, sealing is recommended, 3-4 times a year.

The use of marble is generally more limited for interior use because of its softness and reaction to acidic properties which will etch the surface if polished. It is not recommended for high traffic areas and is more appropriately seen as a vanity, fireplace surround, low traffic flooring, tub decks, and showers.
